My name is Fiona Jarvie and I have worked in the counselling profession for 7 years now, proudly achieving a BA (hons) Degree in Counselling Studies and more recently, becoming an EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Practitioner. I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy); on their Register of Proficiency and as such I am bound by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy upon which my counselling contracts are based. I offer face-to-face sessions and also telephone counselling.
I work part time for a Counselling Charity as a counsellor and an EMDR Practitioner, which takes NHS referrals, self-referrals and provides counselling to victims of crime under a call-off contract with the office for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC) North Yorkshire. I am an affiliate/associate counsellor for some National Employee Assistance Programmes and over the last 7 years, I also worked as a children’s and young person’s counsellor in Primary and Secondary schools across North Yorkshire and Redcar and Cleveland.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, Professional Indemnity Insurance and have my own monthly clinical supervision, ensuring I am working at my best for you and keeping up to date with new training opportunities to enhance your experience.
I am currently taking on new clients (adults, young people and children) in my private practice. Telephone counselling is now available.
You are the expert in your counselling sessions. I shall follow your lead and add tools that I feel will help you the most. If you know the therapy you would like, then please say and I will prepare the therapy room for your arrival. Please see the section on the ‘Types of Therapy I may use’ and also take a glance at what other adult client’s have said in the section titled ‘Testimonials’.
It is always a pleasure to help children and young people on their journey. Surprisingly, children usually know what will help them. They will choose the tools they need (whether this is the craft box, games, colouring, drawing or playing with the miniatures/lego and creating their preferred world). Of-course some children and young people will want to just talk and explore their worries and that is fine too. I can provide a listening ear, I can teach ways of coping with difficult behaviours and feelings and most importantly, I am there with them to share that journey. Please see the section on ‘Testimonials’ and have a read at what some of my children and young people have said helps them most.
If you are studying a Counselling Diploma or Degree, part of your requirements will be to have your own personal therapy. This can help you to gain new insight and awareness of any past or present worry, helping you to start your counselling profession free from emotional distress. I am happy to offer a reduced fee for Student Counsellors as you will be adding a very valuable resource into the community once you are qualified. Please see section on ‘Fees’.
